A small, bushy tree from the Myrtaceae (Myrtle family) with sweet white flowers and a cherry-like fruit, Myrciaria dubia is known for its extraordinarily high vitamin C content: around 2 to 3 percent of its fresh weight. It comes from the Amazonian rainforest in Peru and Brazil.
Camu Camu has an extraordinarily high vitamin C content and though this is the most important property of the Camu Camu fruit it also contains several other essential antioxidants. Traditionally used in native diets as flavouring in sweets, Camu Camu berry is also used in drinks and preserves but, owing to its high nutritional content it is increasingly being used as a food supplement.
